Facility introduction
In 1903, it was built as a residence of US Consul General, Hunter Sharp.
This is two-story wooden clapboard ijin-kan with luxurious designs here and there, including two differently shaped bay windows, Arabesque style stairs, and a massive mantelpiece.
Later, in 1944 it became a residence of Hideo Kobayashi, former president of Kobe Electric Railway.
It was designated as an important cultural property n 1980. It had been called ‘a white ijin-kan’ for a long time but this name was given after the original light green exterior wall was restored by the repair from 1987.
Inside of the house, things which were left by Kobayashi’s are displayed, which makes it possible for you to enjoy both the external appearance of the Meiji era and the lifestyle of Kobe in the Showa era at the same time.
From the veranda of the second floor, you can look out over the Kobe port.
Interior of house
There were rooms for entertaining guests and for everyday life such as the reception room on the left and the dinning room on the right of the 1st floor.
Since it’s surrounded by glass windows, you can enjoy the wonderful viewing along with the sunshine.
When you visit Kitano Ijin-kan to see the sights, why don’t you stop by at Moegi House.
